Cheap Vehicle Insurance, Illegal uninsured motorists hit my car.
Question: My parked car was hit by a drunk, illegal, and uninsured motorists with a car bought from one of those small time car dealerships. My question is: What can I do to help pay for the damages done to my car? The police arrested the driver and gave me the case number, but without him having insurance, am I able to sue him or the car dealership that gave him the car in the first place.
Answer: Do you have vehicle insurance on your car? If you have Comp/Coll coverages: You would only need to worry about the deductible unless you also have UM (uninsured motorist) which would then pay the deductible since you where hit by an uninsured motorist.
If your car only has Liability or you too are uninsured: Then you will have to try and sue the person that hit you. However you do not have a case against the dealer that sold the car. Buying a car does not require you to be insured unless you are financing the vehicle, and then the dealer only cares that you have comp/coll coverages so the vehicle it self is protected. Also, there is no laws against illegals immigrants buying a vehicle.
